Ship Inn, Handbridge.

Just heard that the Ship Inn, Handbrige now has 2 additional handpumps so beer selection will generally be 2 x Golden/blonde; 2 x dark'ish and 2 x bitters. Some beers will from Thwaites as they have provided the extra pumps, but others will be from local micros.
They are holding a Jubilee party over this weekend so all are welcome to try the beers on offer.

I'd heard one or two rumours about the Ship in recent times so I feared the worst when I noticed it was closed last night. Notice up now saying it's under new ownership and re-opening on Friday.

Considering how convenient it is I want to like the place but, despite a decent range of ales, I was never convinced by the quality. As they say, once bitten twice shy, and several times bitten, then you make a rule about it.

I've never been totally convinced either.

And, I apply that rule to any location that stings me up to twice.

I don't take prisoners.

And, they won't take my money.

Totally agree, this place could be one of the 'go-to' pubs in Chester if they get it right.

I'm well happy with this news.

Lance, who's imminently about to vacate the Bird in Hand at Guilden Sutton, has signed a five year tenancy at the Ship. He takes over on the 6th Nov when it will close immediately for a refurb and re-open late in the month.

I'm sure he'll blow fresh wind in its sails. Of late it's definitely been leaking water whilst becalmed in the Doldrums. Most customers mutineed a long while ago.

Went in last night and the place looks good, still has the feel of a pub but with a more open aspect, now the large sofas have gone! Five beers on, 3 from Thwaites and 2 guest: Brimstage - Trappers Hat and Wychwood - The Dog's Bollocks. Ended up trying all of them (as halves) and all in good nick. So good luck to Lance and looking forward to more visits and a branch meeting in June.

Was there on Thursday. Hate sofas in pubs so glad they've gone. Brimstage Trappers Hat was excellent. Didn't try the other beers. I suspect they are all brewed by Marstons at Burton. On the evidence of my visit on Thursday definitely worth venturing across the Old Dee Bridge.

Have been in a few times and still like a creche, Sunday afternoon even had one in a car seat placed on a bar stool with them blocking one end of the bar making it awkward for others to get past.

Had hoped it would change for the better, but can't see it happening.
