Anyone know of any pubs worth going to in Stafford? Preferably with some beers that aren't Black Sheep, Greene King or Deuchars?

The Greyhound is the pick for me. Myself and three other nameless drinkers enjoyed rather too many of an ale called Blythe Bridge Palmer's Poison in here after Chester City had been to town. One of the party ended up missing the train home and sleeping in Picadilly Station while another sadly redecorated the toilets. You wouldn't get respectable local brewers and CAMRA activists doing that sort of thing would you.

Is the Tap & Spile still going? That was good. Long way out of town though. The best one used to be owned by Titanic and was in terracing right near the station. Alas long been converted into housing.

 yes,the T & S is a good bet, could also try the Picture House, the local `Spoons; or the Spittal Brook,if you can overlook the Black Sheep....hopefully,some pubs will be selling Slater`s... :wha:

Hello

Is this in relation to the Beer Fest in Stafford? Is anyone going tomorrow? I am seriously considering it.

Not the respectable ones, no.

Good guess.

Yes, I'm currently debating whether to go tomorrow or not.

What kind of price is the train? Do you know off the top of your head?

£13.50 single from Chester, so a return will be not much more.

Just noticed its £13.50 single to stafford but £13.50 return to Whitchurch. Trains are a bit of a pain to and from Whitchurch, seem to be in 2 hour gaps on a Saturday. There is a bus from Chester to Whitchurch which is not easy either. Judging by the distance on the map, looks as if its approx 1 mile walking distance from either Bus/Train Station.

I don't think i'll bother with either as i'm out in Chester tomorrow night and would have to be back at 6 at the latest. Would only give me a couple of hours drinking time max by the time I would get to Whitchurch.

Also looking at the Shocklach Beer Festival at the end of August, another difficult one on Public Transport.

I'm thinking about Stafford fezza evening session. Train connections at Crewe always seem to involve about 30min wait! Venue is 10min walk from station along straight road so should be OK on way back
Hope to see some familiar faces there?

A fantastic selection of ales here. Although some of what they're classing as locale is questionable.
