Calder Valley Rail Ale Trail.

Post by BBCJohn » Wed Jul 10, 2013 3:19 pm

Hi folks,

A day out in the Calder Valley on the train is planned for Saturday 27th July. Meet at Chester station for the 1052 train to Manchester. It's a long day out but plenty of pubs to visit and you can leave when you want to, just jump on next train! Or perhaps in the words of the song: 'You can check out any time you like, but you can never leave'.
We will be calling at: Sowerby Bridge; Mytholmroyd; Hebden Bridge; Todmorden and Rochdale. At least one pub near the station, except Hebden Bridge where it's an 8 minute walk to the town centre. Choice of 3 pubs.

Tickets: An off-peak day return Chester- Todmorden is £20-30, plus off-peak day return Todmorden-Sowerby Bridge £3-50. The latter allows break of journey along the route. There may be cheaper options for an Arriva group saver for 3 or more people travelling together, but beware if you plan an early exit and break the chain! A Northern Rail Duo ticket will also be cheaper for the Sowerby Bridge end.

We stopped off at the current CAMRA POTY: The Baum, Rochdale. :drinking: This involved a taxi ride from station to pub, cost about £4-50 each way so not too bad when sharing.
If you'd like to come along please let me know at: This is so I can look into cheapest ticket options for a group etc. Hope the sun keeps shining, makes you ever so thirsty! :bg: :drunk:
