Diggers are there now clearing front area of pub where the raised garden was. Rumours are rife about Pub being done out, turned into new type bar lounge, or being knocked down. Take your choice. But then again that doesn't seem to be much interest in this pub any more. I wonder where the racecourse will move on to next!

Newsflash, to anybody who is interested, the Watergate is not getting knocked down they are refurbishing it, I don't know up to what standard as yet i.e. just beer or beer and food. A change of name could be imminent, i.e. black horse, racecourse, black beauty, fill as necessary! Yes, nags head ......

Can't think of anywhere worse than Chester city centre on race day (ok, maybe HMP or A&E would be slightly worse). My regular pub visits next Wed-Fri have been cancelled/postponed. :(

Hope you have a profitable and trouble-free week Chunka.

Change of plan, we will not be open on Wednesday Thursday or Friday lunchtimes we will open as normal at 4 o'clock. Last year was a waste of time.

Was told yesterday by one racegoer that the water gate was open. Anybody been? By the way it is a free house now.

Popped in when I cycled by. Just been hastily re-opened to flog booze to the hordes. Striped down and quick re-paint that's all. No cask obviously.

Two issues with the ACV.
Firstly, there was a recent ruling overturning the precedent that CAMRA branches can submit ACVS. Branches cannot do that now so have to rely on getting enough local opposition to want to form a group to apply.
Secondly, the changes to planning laws which removed permitted development rights for pubs. So all pubs now need to go through planning, not just those covered by ACVs.

So in this instance we've just had to refer to the planning application and ask for objections if people want to save the building:
As rumoured and sadly predictable, Chester Racecourse has put in a planning application to demolish the Watergate Inn. The ref number is: 17/05336/FUL for people to make comments or objections. This can be done online https://pa.cheshirewestandchester.gov.u ... n=firstPag

Spot-on mate, no would’ve been easier, as soon as racecourse got hold of it we all knew where that was going. :drinking:
