Centurion Vicars Cross

Post by Mr W » Wed Jan 14, 2015 8:54 am

Admiral have sold this pub to a development company subject to gaining planning permission to convert to retirement homes.
The application is expected to go in on the 16th Jan leaving.
We had a very encouraging meeting with the locals and I expect a strong fight to be put up to save the pub.

Why is Moseley giving his backing to saving the Centurion but remained silent on the Ship Victory?

Do you really need me to answer that ? Oh alright then...

Because he's a hypocrite, a chancer and a career politician devoid of principles who's exclusively focused on protecting and advancing himself, personally now, rather than serving his constituency.

He couldn't advance his career by opposing the Tory led council and jeopardising the development that depends on the demolition of the Ship Victory and all the income it would generate for various connected people in all manner of means which I'm sure is above board with no 'back-handers' being exchanged or anything like that.

However, the calculation he's made in the case of the Centurion is that the political capital that can be gained from appearing to be a true 'beer champion' and man of the people more than offsets the negative effect of opposing the relatively small scale alternative development.

Simples.

Power to the people.

He needs to justify his position either way. If he supports the demolition of the Ship Victory, he should say so and be able to support that view - not just hide, remain silent and hope it all blows over. He's cynically trying to just cherry pick the good news stories for personal gain.

Great news but let's not forget this fairly poor legilsation gives Admiral the right of appeal. Can't see them winning it but the 8 weeks could allow the planning app in.
There is a lot going on at the Centurion and a lot of it is unchartered territory in the way timings are happening and what is going on behind the scenes.
There is certainly a lot of knowledge and fight on behalf of the pub, I really hope it all pays off.

Planning application refused ! Hurrah.

In pursuance of their powers under the above Acts, the Council hereby REFUSES to grant planning permission in accordance with the application and plans submitted by you, for the following reasons:
1. The proposed development would result in the loss of a public house which would be to the detriment of the cultural, social and economic health of the community to which this facility serves. It has not been sufficiently demonstrated that the public house is financially unviable and its loss would require its customers to travel a significant distance to use another similar facility. The proposed development would not represent a building of equal value. Therefore the proposal is contrary to Policy CU1 of the Chester District Local Plan, Policy ECON2 of the Cheshire West and Chester Council Local Plan (Part One) and the National Planning Policy Framework.
2. The proposed development does not respect the local character by reason of its lack of integration into the urban grain, its density, massing and scale. The proposed development would therefore have a detrimental impact on the character and appearance of the area contrary to Policy H015 of the Chester District Local Plan, Policy ENV6 of the Cheshire West and Chester Council Local Plan (Part One) and the Framework.
3. The proposed development, by reason of its overbearing impact and overlooking into neighbouring residential properties, would be detrimental to the residential amenity of the neighbouring residents. The proposal therefore would be contrary to Policy H015 of the Chester District Local Plan, Policy S005 of the Cheshire West and Chester Council Local Plan (Part One) and the Framework.

The landlord Andy Jones has given his notice and is due to leave with his last night being Tuesday 3rd November. Admiral are bringing in a pub management company who will manage and give a financial assessment on its financial viability over 2 months, until the New Year.

In the meantime the Centurion Support Group are organising the following events -
31/10/2015. 6.30- 9.00 pm Halloween night
11/12/2015- Xmas disco and raffle 9.00pm to late (fundraiser)
20/12/2015 Sunday afternoon children's xmas party

It would be great for people to attend and show their support if possible

"Thank you to Andy Julie and the rest of their team for the last six and a half years of running the centurion, we wish them all the best for the future. We understand a manager is being put in from today, watch this space updates to follow!"

Looks like Admiral are putting a manager in until the New Year so they don't lose Christmas trade!

Ding! Ding! Round Two! Alas a new planning application has been submitted for the ACV listed Centurion in Vicar's Cross. Planning Ref:15/04757/FUL is the one to vigorously oppose. Let's defeat these speculators again !
