Peal o'Bells worries

Post by Handbridge Hophead » Fri Oct 24, 2008 9:40 am

I notice that the Peal o'Bells (our Welsh Pub of the Year 2008) is available to let on the Admiral Taverns website. Has Phil, not without good cause, finally thrown in the towel? Damn shame if this place turns sour.

Indeed it is -

I'm surprised there aren't a lot more pubs listed on their site.

Would be awful if that place was to go downhill. Phil has done a cracking job in difficult circumstances. Quite a few pubs on there listed as freehold should he be interested in running a pub without handing over large chunks of money to Admiral each month.......

I heard a rumour about it a couple of months ago. Sounds like it's true then

Someone told me he's got another job now to make ends meet. Depressing.

And I already told you that it couldn't do. Not until Sandstone get into the SIBA DDS scheme, for which there are no immediate plans.

If Phil and Anne go, and it seems highly likely they will, this is a truly desperate event. Yet another example of the greed and stupidity of Admiral Taverns which, in the much-used cliche, "beggars belief".
These pubcos are doing irreparable damage to our pubstock. A small consolation is that the main players are all struggling with falling share prices (without the present financial crisis), and with their heavy borrowing, may not survive in their current form. The pub landscape is going to look very different in 3 years, but a large number will have gone for ever by this time.

:( Looks like a confusing case of roundabouts and swings doesn`t it ?? on the one hand allowing the PoB to wither on the vine, and yet re-opening the Anchor,in Saltney !!! Bit like watching your mother-in-law drive off a cliff in your brand new Jag......

Peal o Bells Fezza

Post by Mr W » Tue Apr 21, 2009 4:56 pm

Great news!

Admiral have conceded that Phil can 'buy out' for his fezza on 2/3/4th May!
So expect some interesting brews to be on. Get in.

Cheers for that but left far too late for me to fit a brew in now! Damn this brewing to order malarky :x
The beer list looks good, must try and get down there on the bike again.

A think a few of the usual suspects are going Saturday evening.
We'll be cycling down on Sunday or Monday depending on the weather :drunk:

A few of us are going on Saurday evening. The plan is to catch the last bus to Holt from Chester on Saturday which leaves at at the riotously late time of 17:50. To get back from Holt it will either be a taxi or the 21:00 bus to Wrexham and then train or bus to Chester.
