How to get involved in your local branch

Post by Mr W » Sun Apr 05, 2015 5:33 pm

We’re always happy to have new people involved in the branch but we understand it can be a little awkward turning up for your first meeting or social trip. Here are a few pointers about how you can get more involved in local branch activities:

1. Keep us informed of pub news. We’re always looking for info on pubs in our branch area. If your local installs an extra handpump, closes, starts selling real ales or plans a beer festival etc then do tell us. We may already know but then again it might be hot news!
You can do this in any of the following ways:
• Via the website, contacts on
• Via the website forum
• Via Twitter
• Via Facebook

2. Keep us informed of any changes to pubs via Whatpub
We do a lot of work to keep our branch pub details up-to-date on this national CAMRA database but we rely on getting good information. If you spot anything wrong for a pub listing then you can feed this back for us to update. Whatpub is a great tool for searching pubs for specific facilities ie child friendly, dog friendly, sports TV, games etc.

3. Come along on one of our social meetings. We organise several Friday Five Walkabouts where we stroll around 5 pubs in a small area. These are very informal and you can dip in or out of any of the pubs.
Other socials can be train trips or most often by minibus. These are extremely good value for money – try getting a taxi to transport you from rural pub to pub for less than a tenner. It’s always good to see new faces on these trips and it’s a nice way to join and get to know people in an informal setting over a few pints. You get to do some really good pubs too. Minibus starts in Chester but we can arrange pick-ups for example Wrexham General Station, depending upon numbers and where trips are heading.
Places need to be booked via John the social secretary at

4. Come along to a branch meeting. These are held on the 3rd Thursday every month in varying locations. Members tell us they prefer to mostly have these in the major towns for transport reasons but we also vary them from time to time to visit more out-of-the-way places. Branch meetings are more formal but you’ll get to see how the branch works and find out more about the work we do to support pubs and real ale. Just turn up and say hi!

Details of all meeting and social events are on the website so please take a look
We hope to welcome some more of you to a social or meeting soon.
