Pub of the Year 2014

Post by Mr W » Thu Mar 20, 2014 10:22 pm

Congratulations to the Bridge End Inn Ruabon, winner of our branch Welsh Area pub of the year 2014. Another space for the McGivern's trophy cabinet required.
Runner up was the community-run Tyn-Y-Capel in Minera.

For our Cheshire Area the winners were the Cellar in Chester. Chapeau Mr Aki and crew.
Runners up were the splendid White Lion in Childer Thornton.

Well done to all of the nominees, high scores all round for the 9 pubs showed the quality of pubs in our branch.

Next up the winners and runners up go into the regional Pub of the Year awards.

The criteria for our judging was in-line with CAMRA policy -
Quality of Beer
Atmosphere/ Style/ Décor
Service/ Welcome
Community Focus
Sympathy with CAMRA Aims
Good Value

Each category had a weighting with the most weighting on the quality of beer.

Yes. Congrats Aki, Adam and, let's not forget Swifty who also helped to set the ball rolling.

As for the Bridge End, great place and just how I like my pubs.

Congratulations to the Cellar bar for winning the pub of the year 2014, beating some very strong contenders to do so. A great team effort to all involved in making the Cellar bar what it is today. Get the ale in Adam!!

A big well done to the Bridge End Inn at Ruabon also. A great pub, run the way I like a pub to be run. Well worth the train journey to Ruabon to sample the great ales on offer. How lucky are we to have these pubs in our area.

Adding my own congrats here to Aki at The Cellar. One of my favourite venues, with a constant supply of wide ranging beer styles to satisfy all palates. Always a warm welcome, great company, and some innovative ways of introducing new beers to faces new and old. (Underground Beer Club is a joy to attend....shame I missed the March event due to being away from Chester that week!)
Monday's pricing is attractive too. Great choice CAMRA for Area winners. Well Done, and keep up the good work.

Here is the full list of 200 POTY winners for the CAMRA branches around the country:

http://www.camra.org.uk/CPM2014Media

Just to annoy Mike5490 our branch winner is listed as the Cellar Bar. Heads must roll.

I reckon I've done about 25 - 30 on that list. No doubt the likes of Handbridge Hophead will be able to beat that.

44 I reckon. Anyone done the micropub Liverpool Pigeon in Crosby?

No surprise to see the Door Hinge in Welling on the list based on Saturday's showing. I'll have to try the Nottingham House Hotel in Cleethorpes a week on Saturday.

Hoping to do Acorn Brewery's Old No. 7 in Barnsley next Tuesday and see the mighty Clarets edge a bit nearer promotion.
