A good day out but the general consensus was that Shrewsbury wasn't that special in terms of choice for real ale. An intrepid team led by BT Keith and included notables from the real ale scene in Chester, i.e. The Akmeister, and JT from the Brewery Tap, Tony and Mike made up the numbers.
First up was the Loggerheads, brilliant old boozer but beer choice limited to the Marstons stable, Hobgoblin, Banks, Jennings nothing exciting. A short walk brought us to the Three Fishes, Mallinsons and an excellent drop of Bass. A bit of a stroll to the Coach and Horses for some excellent Stonehouse.
Along the river to the Salopian, good selection here, notably Oakham and Gipsy Hill. Finally, close to the station, the Vaults, good Hobsons in here.
We took a break in our rail journey to call into the Bridge End at Ruabon, a truly excellent choice of beers, Matt was most welcoming and we tried beers not yet on at the pumps. Best beer of the day!!
Great day out!!
