Re: Stanley's Brook Street

Good that it's staying a pub, tho' I've never done more than look in once, as it appeared to be a bit basic.

(Defo better than becoming a funeral parlour, tho' a maternity unit would have made a nice bookend set for Brook St!)

Mockingbird Taproom

Noticed a twitter from the new owners of the erstwhile Fat Cat, in lower Watergate Street - coming soon & promising "Deep south, gumbos, shellfish, ribs, wine, cocktails, beer, key lime, spice, fajitasaurus, steak, fries, service, music, burger, bourbon" and maybe beer, for all I know! Sounds promis...

Re: Oakham MTB - The Cellar

I second that emotion!

Yes, a splendid evening, so mighty thanx to Aki & all at The Cellar, plus the Oakham chaps of course! (I enjoyed the wide-ranging talk that their man gave to us - v. interesting)

Great beers in their range, esp. the keg 'Green Devil'.

Err, bit strange that your wise words have gone walk-about, Aki - I read 'em earlier today and they made complete sense.

Is there censorship going on? We want to know!!

'Schooner' beer measure - where dat from?!

We've recently been served a 2/3 pint measure in Bar Lounge, under the titling of a 'Schooner', which I've always thought of as a sherry measure - lo & behold, also had the same in Revolution, so maybe this is a new way of referring to this measure? I quite like it actually, it's a useful volume and...

Re: Belly Full - now " Woodys" American Bar !

Popped in for a moment last eve; seems a bit yoof-oriented but might give it a second chance, cos World Cup never seems to bring out the intelligensia! Wonder if the Caribbean-theme will surface anywhere else? Might do ok down Brook St, which is a bit more on the beaten track for interesting eating ...

Belly Full - now " Woodys" American Bar !

Happened to notice this transformation, last evening, whilst patronising The Cellar (opposite) - don't know what the story may be, as to the demise of Caribbean place, but the new beer list mentions a good range of bottle/canned American beers and the serving wenches sport ;in character' baseball ca...

Re: The Botanist (was Living Room)

On my one & only visit, I too had to ask for a top-up! Surely this is penny-pinching and short sighted - they must flush away gallons as the pumps get primed, so giving a proper/slight over-measure can't really 'cost' them much and I for one resent having to ask for a top up and mark the card of any...

Re: The Architect

Hi Swifty - Nice to see you the other day, when I popped in for admittedly rare visit, in company of her-indoors. As discussed, you do tend towards rather puny ABV beers - suggest that you get a stock of bottled '3 Montes', which our beer of choice when we venture into your sister pub, Harkers. Sure...

Re: A stroll around Chester

Agree that this was an interesting opening summary & I can't take much issue with the various comments - do notice, however, that Kash isn't mentioned, which is a pity as they offer a dynamic and excellent selection of beers, often with the interesting option of back-to-back comparison of same beer ...

Echo your words, Ian! So much choice elsewhere that vouchers do indeed 'back up'!

Still, gotta love their Friday fish & chips deal, tho' you then get a free pint anyway!!
