Sad to hear that the Spital Vaults in Boughton's temporarily closed again. The young couple who ran it have quit in exasperation with Marstons over something or other. Feel sorry for them. The lad came to a CAMRA meeting all full of enthusiasm for the place but just couldn't turn it around and fulfi...

Bhutmore BF

How come there's never a social to this well-known fest? It's only a ten minute walk from Wrenbury train station. Not that I'm particularly that way inclined it's also heaven for beer tickers with all sorts of weird new breweries featured. July 1st-6th this year. http://www.bhurtpore.co.uk/news.htm

I've cycled the Ceiriog Valley from Chirk station a few times. A bit of a nasty climb out of Glyn Ceiriog to get to Llanfair DC but worth the effort as the pubs are excellent and the route is generally quite low on traffic. Not quite the famous song but nevertheless a handy bus route to some of the best real ale in the Vale of Clwyd. The 76...

It's only keg bitters I can't stand. I find it staggering that you can be in the Mill in Chester and, despite all the handpumps, find yourself next to someone who orders John Smith's smoothflow. I just look at them with a mixture of disbelief and contempt. As for your lagers I genuinely would strugg...

I overheard in a pub the other day that the one-time Good Beer Guide Y Pentan had re-opened. Someone reckoned it might now be a coffeebar which will probably be a shock to the Mold yoof who frequented the place. Any cask beer?

Expensive Pint

I'll open the bidding. £3.10 at the Pheasant, Higher Burwardsley for Copper Dragon Golden Pippin about two days after anything-but-a -darling Alistair Darling's swingeing budget.
