Sea Horse Great Sutton

Have driven past here a couple of times this past week and noticed that it's been closed. There's a large security company sign in one of the front windows

Re: Frog,upton

I really don't understand why nobody seems able to make a go of this place. It is in an ideal location and with the right people should be a thriving business.

Re: Egerton Arms, Bache, now Mill @ Upton

Well as I was on one of my regular visits to Chester, I called in to see what they had done. More than likely going to be more of a foody pub, but they still have a bar area. Had a decent pint of Joseph Holt bitter and also tried the Two Hoots Golden ale, both were of a good quality, though not surp...

Re: Telfords 'Pub of the Year'

Great! An expert on Chester pubs, beers and CAMRA who lives in Switzerland - we bow to your local knowledge! For your information, I lived in Chester for 50 years and currently spend on average 2 months a year there. As someone who has been and still is in the hospitality business for most of those...

Re: Telfords 'Pub of the Year'

As a new Forum member I have been totally gobsmacked by the vitriol being circulated about the local CAMRA branch. Please stop whinging from the side -lines and bloody help us. Find out about the national POTY scoring system (to which all CAMRA branches adhere), the judging criteria are all availab...

The Chester Camra branch has only ever been interested in Chester pubs. Highly unlikely to change with the usual incumbents on the committee.

Egerton Arms, Bache, now Mill @ Upton

I see that the Egerton at Bache is closed for a refurb after being bought by Holts Brewery.

Re: A walkabout with a well known Chester landlord!

Interesting post Mike. On my last couple of visits to Chester I have tried Goat and Munch and found the beer quality very good. Telfords and the Cellar have both been hit and miss on quality & temperature when I have visited, both serving warm beer. As for the Pied Bull the beer quality has been awf...

Can't vouch for the beer as I'm not a big fan of Sam Smiths.
Agreed, the building itself is fantastic and given a makeover it could be a good pub. However it always feels dingy in there.

You could always try popping in for a pint mate! :P
No thanks, whilst I don't mind the occasional pint of Sam Smiths, The Boot is probably the worst pub in there estate, in my opinion.

Not much that anyone other than herself can do really, she is either up to the job of running it or isn't. Hopefully she can prove herself in the time given.

Re: Branch Pubs of the Year 2016

Lets play nicely boys! My top three are 1 Olde Cottage 2 Bridge Inn 3 Cellar on the fringes, Artichoke, Cross Keys. Mike, whilst I don't deny the likes of the Cellar & Artichoke are both places that serve good ale and in Artichokes case pretty fine food also. I personally don't see either of them a...

I may only be in the UK for 6/7 weeks of the year, however I am sure that the establishments that I frequent are happy to have a share of my not so inconsiderable bar spend.

Re: Branch Pubs of the Year 2016

chunkamunka, if I were to be in Chester, then more than happy to do so. However as I am now living in Switzerland and only visit Chester approx every 6 weeks not so easy.

Mike, going on my previous visits, my top three would be: Bridge Inn, Albion and the Cross Keys.
